S810 This album is really fucking with my head! I thought the whole "play two different albums at the same time" thing was stupid when I first heard about it, but now I see that I was totally wrong. I'm pretty sure if you play this thing the right way, either your head explodes or it unlocks the secrets of the universe. Maybe both... Either way, I like it. Favorite track: Boris - Huge (Disc 1).

Angeltown An overall amazing album/collaboration. If you're a fan of Boris, listen to this.
RECOMMENDED, Play both CDS into two different players and play at the same time for a trip. Favorite track: Boris - Heavy Rain (Disc 1).

seasonsinthesky Fantastic and unexpected, though I do sorta wish it was "Flood" as teased on YouTube many moons ago. The only bad part is the mastering of the Merzbow disc, which is so incredibly loud (as intended, I realize) that you're basically forced to screw with the volume of that side when you play the discs together. Favorite track: Boris - Huge (Disc 1).

Yann Robert Honestly, I'm blown away! This is simply the best album (concept and composition) that I've ever hear! Both LPs are amazing on their own, but once mixed together and interwinded in each other, the result is completly ASTONISHING! This is pure genius! You really can create your own "Gensho". I could go deeper in the details, but trust me, there is no need to. Just listen to it... Seriously, you'll be speechless! BUY OR DIE!!!

about

Renowned Japanese innovators BORIS WITH MERZBOW have teamed up with Relapse for their new collaborative 2xCD/4xLP Gensho, one of the artists' most daring works to date. Named after the Japanese word for "phenomenon", Gensho is a unique release featuring over 150 minutes of new music spread across two CDs and four LPs, available as two separate double LP sets or a deluxe 4xLP edition. The BORIS songs are completely new, percussion-less reinventions of classic tracks from the band's storied catalog, while MERZBOW's songs are entirely new compositions. The two sets are intended to be played at the same time at varying volumes so that the listener can experience their own "gensho/phenomenon" every time. As with every BORIS WITH MERZBOW release, the only thing to expect is the unexpected, lending the album near-infinite potential for aural discovery and encouraging direct interactivity with the listener rarely found in such unconventional music. An untouchable paroxysm of noisy, droning experimentation!

about

Boris & Merzbow Japan

Both BORIS and MERZBOW are well known for numerous collaborative works with a plethora of artists, but have been working together since 1997. Musically, BORIS helps to shape MERZBOW’s wall of noise as a composed musical score with structure, and to make it easier to access the noise master’s music while MERZBOW adds an extreme high frequency to BORIS’ signature heavier sound. ... more
